Data from a recent National Center for Atmospheric Research study shows that our daily temperature highs outpace record lows by an average ratio of 2-1. At weather stations operating since 1950 daily record highs were slightly higher than a 1-1 ratio against record lows in the 1950s. In the 1960s and 1970s, this stabilized. Since the 1980s, record highs have oupaced record lows and the ratio is increasing. Forecast models suggest that if greenhouse gas emissions continue at their present levels the ratio will reach 20-1 by 2050 and 50-1 in 2100.
Whether climate change is caused by humans or is a naturally occurring event seems irrelevant. We should be proactively curbing greenhouse gasses in order to slow the increasing heat of our planet.
