The effect of cell pohone radiation on our health is a growing concern. Although the jury is still out about cell phone radiation, some studies in Europe show an increase in cancer in rural areas where people depend on cell phones. Until we know for sure if cell phones are safe, it is wise to purchase cell phones that are known to have lower radiation emissions.
The first Cell Phone Radiation Guide was put together by the Environmental Working Group in 2009, with an upodate this year. Some of the most popular phones include Motorola's Droid, BlackBerry Bold 9700, LG Chocolate Touch and HTC Nexus One by Google, should be avoided as all four are on the edge of the radio-frequency radiation safety limits set by the Federal Communications Commission.
Safer phones include the Motorola Brute 1680, Samsung Mythic and Pantech Impact have some of the lowest emissions, a wise choice until we know more about long-term effects of cell phone radiation. This is especially important if you have children or teens using cell phones.
If you are willing to switch carriers, consult the Environmental Working Group's list of phones with the lowest emissions.
If you are staying with your current carrier, click on your carrier's name on the Environmental Working Group's Get A Safer Phone for a list of the phones your carrier has available. Those with the lowest radiation will be at the top of the list.
For added safety, follow EWG's eight tips to reduce cell phone radiation exposure.
