One problem with furniture polish is it smells so strong. Having a sensitive nose and even more sensitive lungs, I love how furniture polish soaks into dry wood and makes the table shine, but it comes with a price – asthma. Further, quality furniture polishes are not cheap.

The good news is that you can easily make your own polish. It has a fresh, delicate scent, is completely environmentally friendly, and it's a great way to use up old vegetable oil.

Mix together 2 parts olive oil (or other vegetable oil), 1 part lemon juice and a few drops of vanilla extract. Rub on with a lint-free cloth; wipe off using a fresh, lint-free cloth. Many spiders and insects are put off by the aroma of vanilla. If you have a spider problem, add a little extra vanilla to the mix as it sometimes helps.

I was looking all over for vanilla furniture polish; pledge used to make a good one, however it seems to have been discontinued - but your recipe is even better, and thank you!
