Chef Dave Nelson is a culinary pro with a cause. Dave's been in and around the kitchens of restaurants, inns, resorts, and his private clients since he began his career in 1971 at the age of 14, washing dishes at a small country in in New Hampshire. After "basic training" at Johnson and Wales, Dave hit the kitchen with a vengeance. He's been a chef, a general manager, a culinary instructor, a certified resort manager and a national culinary products sales associate. He even opened a real Texas-style smokehouse restaurant in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
In 1999, Dave, his wife Pam (who has worked side-by-side Dave on many ventures), and their partners Fred and Margie Roosli, co-founded, Chef2Chef.net, the Internet’s largest culinary portal. In a little over seven years, their team built the site to over 800,000 pages of culinary content and made Chef2Chef.net a brand name in the industry. The team and chefs from around the world helped form the Chef2Chef Culinary Scholarship Program, which now operates under the name Chefs4Students.
C4Students is a non-profit organization founded by dedicated chefs committed to giving back to the future of the industry. Chefs from all over the world have come together to raise money by booking out their restaurants for food and wine pairings and silent auctions. It has also been funded by generous like-minded culinarians through cash, product donations for auctions, cookbook donations and more. The program is overseen by Chef Dave and Pam from Steamboat Springs.
All profits raised at events, auctions or cash donations go into a fund set-up under the umbrella of the Yampa Valley Community Foundation located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. This foundation oversees all funds and disburses the money as advised at the time of grant awards. Chefs4Students.org and its administrators do not profit from this program and never have. As if being a personal chef, teaching, doing special events and raising funds for the Chef4Students program weren't enough, in the summer of 2009 Dave and Pam launched a new side business based on a seasoning blend that Chef Dave has been producing for nearly 20 years, Naughty Nelly's Fiery Foods. The original product is a spicy blend we call Naughty Nelly's Deadly Twelve Pepper Blend, but we have added about 15 other blends, dip and chile pepper powders. We also sell heirloom pepper and tomato seeds on the site. You'll get a kick out of Naughty Nelly's. 10% of the profit from purchases of Naughty Nelly's products is donated to the Chefs4students.
